Google and Facebook Apricot . Underwater Internet Cable Project
INTERNATIONAL | 5G TECHNOLOGY Facebook and Google built the latest project for the construction of the 12,000 kilometer Apricot submarine cable system connecting Japan, Taiwan, Guam, the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore.
Later, the submarine cable will be able to increase internet capacity and speed in the Asia Pacific region. Moreover, the submarine cable system will answer internet needs due to the increasing demand for 4G and 5G networks in the region.
The plan, the Apricot project will be completed in 2024.
Network investment manager Facebook Nico Roehrich said Apricot's cable network has an initial capacity of 190 terabits per second to serve the growing data demand in Asia Pacific.
"The Apricot cable is part of our efforts to expand our global network infrastructure and provide better services to the 3.5 million+ people worldwide who use our services every month," explains Roehrich.
Apricot will complement other submarine cables Echo and Bifrost, another cable system announced Googleearlier this year. The Echo cable itself connects Singapore, Guam, Indonesia, and the United States.
Global network vice president Google Bikash Koley said Echo and Apricot will increase the number of data lines to and from Asia thereby increasing the durability of digital and cloud services Google.
"Both will provide lower latency, more bandwidth, and increase the resilience of connectivity between Southeast Asia, North Asia and the United States, which Asian businesses and startups can benefit from," said Koley in an official blog. Google.
