The numbers suggest that beauty consumers are increasingly looking for creative expression rather than simply trying to achieve a flawless appearance.

The shift has helped fuel the rise of imperfect beauty, sometimes described as lived-in beauty. Instead of hiding every sign of tiredness, texture or imperfection, the aesthetic allows them to remain visible. Slightly smudged eyeliner, visible under-eyes and less-polished complexions have become part of the look.

The trend has also moved beyond TikTok and onto fashion runways. Reports on Fall 2026 beauty trends noted that imperfect beauty was appearing on major runways, with smudged eye makeup and less-concealed under-eyes becoming increasingly visible.
