China Honors 17 Global Projects at World Internet Conference 2025
The award ceremony for the World Internet Conference's Pioneering Science and Technology Awards took place in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, eastern China.
WUZHEN, CHINA — Seventeen international science and technology projects have been recognized at the 2025 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit in Zhejiang Province, China, marking the country’s growing influence in global digital innovation and collaboration.
According to a report by Xinhua News, the awards highlight advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) models, smart Internet of Things (IoT), embodied intelligence, and quantum computing key areas driving the next wave of industrial transformation.
“Science and technology are the fundamental engines of global industrial and social progress,” said the WIC 2025 organizing committee in a statement quoted by Xinhua.
The summit brought together representatives from more than 80 countries and international organizations, focusing on how cutting-edge innovations can enhance digital governance, cybersecurity, and sustainable growth worldwide.
Beyond the awards, WIC 2025 also showcased interactive exhibits such as AI-powered city management systems, cloud-based healthcare platforms, and quantum communication prototypes jointly developed by international research institutions.
According to Xinhua, the recognition underscores China’s commitment to promoting “the integration of advanced technology and sustainable development,” while strengthening cooperation among startups, universities, and global research bodies.
“The WIC awards reflect a shared pursuit of a smart, inclusive, and connected digital future,” said a representative from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as cited by Xinhua.
Panel discussions during the summit addressed AI ethics, cross-border data governance, and the global digital economy, which experts estimate could exceed USD 25 trillion by the end of the decade.
By positioning Wuzhen as the “Silicon Valley of the East,” the WIC continues to reinforce China’s ambitions to become a world hub for internet innovation amid growing global tech competition.
